The Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) established the new deep sea port located at Sri Racha District, Chonburi Province. The deep sea port designated as a commercial port mainly to accommodated container ships of 50,000 DWT and agri-bulk carriers. The port comprises 3 container terminals, 1 multi-purpose terminal, 1 coastal terminal, 1 tapioca terminal, 1 sugar/molasses terminal, port buildings, warehouse, road and railway, and breakwater. The total construction area was 12,000,000 m2 and an area of 800,000 m2 was reserved for future expansion.
Southeast Asia Technology Co., Ltd. (SEATEC) with a Japanese and other two local consultants were assigned to provide the consulting engineering services for construction supervision of the Laem Chabang Deep Sea Port. The total project cost was Baht 2,600 million. It was completed in 1992.
